Clash Royale: Best Lumberjack Decks

It's all in the wrists.

Lumberjack is really popular right now thanks to its high synergy with the new Baby Dragon evo, as well as it’s general strength. Then there’s the evolved Lumberjack, which is one of the best troops right now for offensive pushes, especially since Rage was buffed recently. In this article I’ll look at three great Lumberjack-based decks, but first, let’s take a look at how to play Lumberjack in the first place!

Most of the decks I feature come from my in-game experience, research I’ve done on sites like RoyaleAPI, and general archetypes that have been around for a long time. I don’t claim to have “created” any specific deck fully by myself, even though I do typically change something about the decks I feature.

How to Play Lumberjack (and Lumberjack Evolution)

Lumberjack is a 4-elixir troop that only targets troops/buildings on the ground. It does high DPS with its attacks, but the real appeal is the Rage pool he drops on the ground upon death. The standard version of Lumberjack is already strong, as it works well to clear the way for an offensive troop which then benefits from the Rage after Lumberjack dies. The Rage pool damages enemies in it when it lands, so it helps protect against low-HP troops and swarms as well.

The best troops to pair with Lumberjack are ones which most benefit from an attack/movement speed boost. Slower tanks benefit since it lets them take enemies by surprise and rush a tower quickly, while faster threats like Hog Rider or Prince benefit since it basically amplifies what they’re already good at. Right now it’s more popular to play him with large tanks and/or slow-moving threats like Balloon, but you never know how quickly that might change.

Lumberjack’s evolution doesn’t change anything about how he functions at first. He’s still a brawler on the ground that leaves behind a Rage pool, but now his ghost also stays behind to fight. The Lumberjack’s ghost is limited to the area of the Rage pool, but he does tons of damage to compensate for his limited range. If you can get him close to a tower before dying, he can even attack them to do some unstoppable damage since he can’t be targeted or affected by spells in this state.

Lumberjack Deck 1

Cards:

  • Lumberjack (Evo)
  • Baby Dragon (Evo)
  • Balloon
  • P.E.K.K.A.
  • Ice Wizard
  • Barbarian Barrel
  • Tornado
  • Vines

This is a top meta deck right now, as it can handle just about anything even at the highest levels of the ladder. It features two win cons, both of which get a massive boost from Lumberjack’s Rage. Balloon and P.E.K.K.A. are both super dangerous threats that you can build an entire deck around, and with Lumberjack and Baby Dragon evolutions, this deck is able to support both equally.

The key to this deck is to generally focus on one win con at a time. Both Balloon and P.E.K.K.A. are strong in tandem, but at least until double elixir, you’ll want to focus on one at a time. Either one with support from Baby Dragon and/or Ice Wizard makes a great push, and if you time it right you’ll have the other one ready as soon as the previous push is finishing up. Tornado is also really helpful since we have Ice Wizard and Baby Dragon, both of which do AOE attacks. It can also pull in troops so they all get hit by your Balloon’s post-death explosion.

This deck plays best if you’re really aggressive. You don’t want to over-commit, but as long as you’re able to quickly identify your opponent’s threat(s) you should be able to use one of your threats while having a way to always counter theirs.

Lumberjack Deck 2

Cards:

  • Lumberjack (Evo)
  • Valkyrie (Evo)
  • Golem
  • Electro Wizard
  • Vines
  • Ice Wizard
  • Barbarian Barrel
  • Tornado

This is my favorite Lumberjack deck right now. Golem decks in general are really fun to play since you can get some really strong 3-crown victories, but they’re hard to make work since they require so much commitment to one strategy. Golem isn’t the hardest card to counter, and it feels like with each new evolution and/or card that releases he gets left behind a little bit. But, that being said, you can still make him work. And Lumberjack is the perfect card to use to make Golem stronger. The Rage boost is massive for Golem, as his speed is so slow on its own. Then we have the Valkyrie as the second evo card, which makes countering Golem feel impossible.

Between evolved Valkyrie, Ice Wizard’s AOE, and Vines as a freeze/damage spell, this deck is very hard to deal with. Electro Wizard is great for defending against fliers and specific cards which it hard counters, and it benefits well from evolved Valkyrie’s effect. Once you’re able to group up all your opponents’ troops with Valkyrie’s evo effect or Tornado, cards like Electro Wizard, Ice Wizard, and even Barbarian Barrel all become more effective.

This deck really has to take its time and be patient to work. Golem is a slow card, and there’s nothing you can do to force him to speed up (other than sacrifice Lumberjack). But with patience, a Rage pool, and a whole bunch of support troops, this deck makes some incredible late game pushes.

Lumberjack Deck 3

Cards:

  • Lumberjack (Evo)
  • Royal Giant (Evo)
  • Princess
  • Mini P.E.K.K.A.
  • Minions
  • Rage
  • Zap
  • Vines

The last Lumberjack deck is all about the Rage. Royal Giant is the featured win con this time, and you can use him with or without his evolution. Since Royal Giant is quickly able to start doing tower damage right after spawning, he’s a perfect target for Rage. You can usually surprise your opponents and do some tower damage before they have time to react, especially now that Vines is so good at instantly killing possible counters for Royal Giant. Plus, I also included Rage as an individual spell so it’s consistently available without having to perfectly time a Lumberjack.

To defend Royal Giant and friendly towers, this deck has some pretty basic troops. Princess is good in situations where she can engage from long range, and this deck is good at that. Royal Giant will guarantee that your opponent will play some troops near the bridge, often swarms. Princess can clear these all day long, and her super long range ensures that no matter what side of the battlefield she’s on, she’ll be able to help with anything. Then I have Mini P.E.K.K.A. as an easy way to deal with tanks, and Minions for both tanks and fliers. Zap and Vines are both just great spells that do some damage and help keep Royal Giant alive for as long as possible since that’s the ultimate goal of any Royal Giant deck.

As with most Lumberjack decks, this one is also pretty aggressive. Royal Giant favors quick, unexpected attacks, so I’d recommend sticking with that style whenever possible. Rage allows you to be more consistent with this, and Zap and Vines do too since they can clear out anything that might try stopping you.
